About

The 986 Boxster is a modern classic, employing the classic super car architecture of a mid mounted longitudinally orientated engine in a vehicle with compact dimensions and light weight. The only problem is when compared with modern vehicles the Boxster, despite it’s incredible balance, performance is found lacking. The solution? A repower which delivers a massive increase in performance without compromising balance, mass or the quality of the engineering.

Repower is an automotive industry term used to describe replacing an existing engine with one which offers improvements in the areas most important to the vehicles owner. When choosing an engine to use as the basis of a repower solution there are several key factors that must be considered from engine mass and physical size to the performance capability of the engine and how it will integrate with the vehicle. The Booster repower solution allows for the fitment of the legendary turbo charged 1800CC Audi 20V engine without impacting the mass distribution of the Boxster whilst at the same time supporting power outputs from 200bhp to 500bhp.

The Repower solution mounts the new engine in the original position, using the original gearbox and engine mounting pickup points. No modifications to the monocoque of the vehicle are required and as such the repower is not subject to the DVLAs radically modified vehicles rule.

The Audi 20V is legendary in performance circles for its incredible power potential and reliability at those power levels and has a fantastic motorsport history having formed the base of the Formula Palmer Audi power unit from 1998 to 2010 and the Formula 2 power unit from 2009 - 2012. The engine is generationally similar enough to the Porsche M96 engine to integrate extremely well with the chassis and electronics of the 986 and the end repower looks and functions as if it was produced by an OEM.

Why Booster? The original Boxster name is derived from “Boxer Engined Speedster”, we followed the same naming convention to arrive at Booster…"Boosted Engine Speedster”.

The TL;DR? Upto 500bhp and 300 ftlbs with an 8000RPM rev limit in a car that weighs less than 1250KGs.
